Swimming with Dolphins (Black Cat Cruises) is the ultimate dolphin experience, swimming in the wild with the endangered Hector’s Dolphin - the world’s rarest and smallest dolphin. Located in stunning Akaroa, just 90 minutes from Christchurch, it is the only place in the world where you can get up close with New Zealand’s Hector's dolphin. Our experience and dedication to our local environment delivers a New Zealand must-do activity. Operating Oct-April, everything is provided for your comfort and safety: purpose-built swimming boats, thick 5mm wetsuits & boots, changing facilities with hot showers, hot chocolate, masks and snorkels.

Hector's dolphins are one of the world's rarest and smallest dolphins. Our skippers and nature guides are experienced at finding pods of Hector’s dolphins and enjoy a high success rate. We do fully respect natural behaviours of wildlife; in the unlikely event you don’t get to see any dolphins you’ll receive a complimentary ticket for our twice-daily Akaroa Nature Cruise to join us another day.
Cancellation Policy
Four days prior for group bookings.
No cancellation fee if cancelled more than 24 hours in advance for Free Independent Traveller (FIT) customers.
